If you are lucky enough to be like many of my annoying friends lately, you are probably escaping the Australian winter and currently jet setting off to Europe for a much needed holiday in the sun. Beauty prep is key as air travel can be pretty harsh and damaging sucking the life out of your skin.

Long haul flights are not easy at the best of times. You are lucky if you manage to get some sleep or find a movie you don't mind watching for a few hours, definitely the last thing you need is your skin drying out or worse getting flaky before your big Instagram worthy Santorini vacation has even begun. if you want to touch down in the northern hemisphere ready to go use these little travel beauty secrets.

For the week leading up to your flight make sure you are using a gentle facial exfoliant 2 or 3 times. This will give your skin a smooth surface to work with and buff away dead cells to help your moisturiser sink in to the deeper layers. I love the super easy to use Dermalogica Daily Exfoliant just follow up with a deep moisturiser.

The day before your your big adventure you might want to get a fake tan session in to save yourself from baking under those damaging rays while trying to catch up with the bronzed locals. You could get a professional spray but a mouse tanning formula and a tanning mit will work just as nicely. Try Minetan My Moroccan Foam, an express 1 hour tan, it leaves you more time for last minute suitcase packing. Starting at your legs, work the colour into the skin upwards in large even strokes, leave for an hour then wash off in the shower for a natural dark chocolate brown finish.

Carry on a few miniature sized skin savers onto your flight to be prepared. The old favourite Papaw Ointment works amazing as a rich cuticle balm, treatment for chapped lips and even taming flyaways. Think about packing an in flight face mask into your beauty bag for heavenly skin. Cloth face masks are ideal for topping up hydration levels and smoothing fine lines and plumping. Fold the cloth sheet mask out and gently lay onto your face, any leftover serum works nicely pat onto your neck and hands. Relax while they dim the lights during your flight or use your cloth mask even earlier if you don't mind a few odd looks from the flight attendants (it's totally worth it).

Lastly pack in your bag a versatile product to use during your trip to help keep you moisturised and also top up your colour when necessary. Napoleon Perdis at Westfield Penrith has in store the Whipped Dream Tan Enhancer, this tub of bronzy goodness is packed full of skin enhancing ingredients like almond oil, olive oil and shea butter, just slather on when you need a pick me up and go grab your sundress. Don't forget your sunscreen!
